Dumortierite (Virginia) Tumbled Stones
Dumortierite typically occurs in high temperature aluminium rich regional metamorphic rocks, those resulting from contact metamorphism.
Almost all dumortierite stones are opaque and its uneven distribution of mineral impurities gives these stones a transitioning blue color that fades in and out throughout each stone.
The stone is a key ingredient in high-grade porcelain because it turns a pure white color when exposed to heat. It is sometimes mistaken for sodalite and has been used as imitation lapis lazuli.
The stones in this listing are a domestic Dumortierite and come from Virginia — which is known for its deeper, more evenly colored blues.
You will receive one stone, which has a size/shape that may vary due to each stone being unique in color and form. Most stones range between 0.6"-1.2"
