Chert, Green Tumbled Stones

Chert is a hard, fine-grained sedimentary rock that's composed of very small quartz crystals. These stones consist of the petrified remains of siliceous ooze, the biogenic sediment that covers large areas of the deep ocean floor, and which contains the silicon skeletal remains of diatoms, silicoflagellates, and radiolarians. 

Depending on its origin, it can contain either microfossils, small macrofossils, or both.

Chert is found in a wide array of colors. The green stones in this listing get their color from iron traces found within the material.
