Chrysocolla is a hydrated copper phyllosilicate mineral found in multiple regions around the world. Its name comes from the ancient Greek words for "Gold" and "Blue." References to the stone being used to solder gold appear as far back as 315 BC.
A 2006 study has produced evidence that chrysocolla may be a microscopic mixture of the copper hydroxide mineral spertiniite, amorphous silica and water.
Since it contains similar colors as Turquoise, and is somewhat more common, Chrysocolla is a popular choice for jewelry makers.
