Bloodstone Gemstone Chips

Bloodstone is the trade name given to the mineral Heliotrope. These stones consist of a mixture of Quartz, Jasper and occasionally Chalcedony. The most common Bloodstone contains opaque Green Jasper with red inclusions of Hematite.

Heliotrope was called a "stone of Babylon" by Albertus Magnus, who referred to the stone’s many magical properties. Pliny the Elder (1st century) first mentioned magicians' use of Bloodstone to aid in invisibility. Damigeron (4th century) published works on Bloodstone's ability to create rain, solar eclipse and virtue in divination and preserving health and youth.

Today, Bloodstone is hailed for its abilities to increase courage, energy and self confidence.
