Aragonite is one of the most commonly occuring calcium carbonate minerals (along with Calcite). These minerals form from both biological and physical processes — the most common of which is precipitation from marine and freshwater environments.
Aragonite is found most heavily in Molina de Aragón in the Province of Guadalajara in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, for which it was named in 1797.
