The Dog Has Run Off Again

I must be on a poetry kick.

The Dog Has Run off Again by Mary Oliver
And I should start shouting his name
And clapping my hands,
But it has been raining all night
And the narrow creek has risen
Is a tawny turbulence is rushing along
Over the mossy stones
Is surging forward
With a sweet loopy music
And therefore I don’t want to entangle it
With my own voice
Calling summoning
My little dog to hurry back
Look the sunlight and the shadows are chasing each other
Listen how the wind swirls and leaps and dives up and down
Who am I to summon his hard and happy body
His four white feet that love to wheel and pedal
Through the dark leaves
To come back to walk by my side, obedient.
The Journey to Ithaca

The Return of Odysseus by Claude Lorrain (1644) Love this poem that Chris Guillebeau referenced today in his post, “What to do About Those People Who Sidetracked Your Life.” When you set out on your journey to Ithaca, pray that the road is long, full of adventure, full of knowledge. The… go on…

Made this based on a quote I just read in Cassandra Clare’s “Clockwork Angel” (loving the book as a whole, too). Larger, printable versions at flickr. This font is Mensch by the Lost Type Co-Op. go on…

“I knew I was out of the loop when I read recently that the Ford Motor Company is allowing smart phone apps on Android phone to link directly to sync-equipped cars,” Rooney said in an October 2010 episode. “I not only don’t have an Android-equipped phone in my car, I don’t know what one is, wouldn’t know what one was if I saw one.”

Oatmeal Nine Ways (I made a poor man’s version of their pumpkin spice; instead of baking it I just mixed in some canned pumpkin & cinnamon to my regular oatmeal – totally worked! Their pictures are pretty, though.)
I loved the bluntness of this Immortals ad.

Also this, which I found while we were working on our wedding playlist. I didn’t know the Beatles had done a version of this song. Super cute.

reading materials

Even though I’m drowning in wedding and work and potentially sick dogs, I’m happy to provide you with a list of awesome things I’ve read lately in five minute increments before falling asleep at night.

Hark! A Vagrant b Kate Beaton. Get it now. Cartoons + history/literature = funny.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I read a thing that said it was the new Harry Potter, and while it was great, I say this in response.

The Mistresses of Henry VIII by Kelly Hart. You know how I love Tudor shit. This goes behind the scenes and tells more than the average Tudor book about the ladies who may have known Henry VIII the best.
If you’ve noticed a giant lack of Dance With Dragons…well, you’ve got me. I’m at the point where I think I can pick it up again, but damned if I’m not sick of <spoiler alert> being on that river with Tyrion.
